Word 2000 crashes

Whenever I open Word 2000, it completely crashes my
computer. I don't remember ever changing any settings, it
just started spontaneously. Nothing I've tried fixed it,
including completely uninstalling and reinstalling. I have
heard that there is something I can edit in my registry to
fix this, but I can't find any info on it. If anyone has
had this problem, I'd really appreciate the help.

Just found the answer to my own question. If this happens
to you, the normal template that Word opens may have been
corrupted. Search your computer for "normal" and move the
file out of the directory it is in. Try starting Word
again and if it works, that was your problem and you can
delete the file. Word replaces it when it cannot find it.
If not, good luck with your problem.

We don't advise users to delete Normal.dot (which causes users to lose all
customizations) but to rename it. There are many possible causes of problems
starting Word, and a damaged Normal.dot is only one of them. For a summary
of general troubleshooting tips, see
