Word 2000 crashing after Ctrl-X

Herb

For proofreading purposes, I use a particular type of Word file in the
form of a 3-column table, with 2 colums formatted as hidden (I'm not
sure whether this is relevant for my problem).

Sometimes Word 2000 crashes out of the blue. I am not entirely sure
about this, but I think I have narrowed it down to the Ctrl-X keyboard
shortcut for cutting text, i.e. the crashes tend to occur after using
Ctrl-X.

I tried to rectify the situation via an Office Repair, but the problem
persists.

Any ideas?

Hi Graham,

thanks for the useful links, although as far as I can see they don't
necessarily address potential causes of my problem, i.e. your first link
contains very useful information on eliminating bloated Temp directories
and the second link addresses the problem of Word crashing as soon as it
opens.

However, this is not the case here, i.e. Word seems to work quite
happily as long as I don't use Ctrl-X too often.

Perhaps I missed the relevant information in the links you provided?

The second link addresses all the issues that usually cause Word to crash.
Don't be misled by the page filename. Most problems are cause by external
forces. This link explains how to fix them. the first link is not about
bloat but about orphaned temporary files, which themselves can cause
problems if not removed following a crash.

Thanks, I'll implement the recommendations provided in your links.
