Word 2000 doc behaving odd in Word 2007

I work in a sheriff's department where we have many complicated forms the
officers must fill out. Recently we upgraded from Office 2000 to Office 2007.

One of the forms they use quite frequently is in a Word 2000 document; it
consists of two tables with spaces for input, and a rather large footer. When
we open this document in Word 2007, some of the formatting is shifted around
so that some of the lines are hidden. Not only that, but most frustratingly,
as you are typing into some of the spaces in the second table, suddenly all
the typing disappears! The typing disappears in the space where you are
typing, as well as in the rows above the space. If you minimize the window,
everything reappears, only to disappear again a moment later when you
continue to type.

I have checked the page settings; and all of the margins are the same as
they are in Word 2000, so I see no reason for the formatting to have changed.
And the disappearing text only occurs in Word 2007. I even tried saving the
document as the new file type, and even as a template, and still had the same
problem when I opened the document for editing.

Has anyone else run into this problem? Any suggestions?

I've been running into this problem off & on since the late 90s. You'd think
MS would have addressed it by now (or better yet, fixed it!). My current
client uses Word 2002 and I'm having the same problem -- even without trying
to open the file in a different version of word. I've searched the site and
haven't found any solutions/workarounds yet.

I guess the best advice is "stop using Word."

If you are finding that text disappears on a page and switching windows or
activating/deactivating the application fixes it then this is a graphics
issue - not a Word issue. :)

Try updating your display driver and if that doesn't work, try turning your
hardware acceleration down a notch or two.
