I am using WIndows XP and MS Office 2000, on all machines of my offfice,
However, on two machines, whenever we try to open any file/ blank documents
in word2000, The application does not list the Fonts SAy document is created
in Ariel or Times new roman, still the Word will show entier document
composed in Device Font. And if we click on FOnt Box to change the Fonts,
the Drop down list shosw only 4 Device Fonts 10CPS, 12 CPs 8 cps and so
on..However, other applications on the same machine list all fonts.

What can we do to use the fonts in word..? how can we get all the fonts
listed in the drop down list box..??

Click on Start | Control Panel | Printers and Faxes. If the
default printer is None, Fax, or Generic/Text Only, then select a
default printer that is capable of printing fonts, and you will
see more choices in Word.

I will try that and let you know..Perhaps but can you tell me why other
aplications (Excel- for example ) lists all the fonts and the Word does not..?

Bye.

Suzanne, that article doesn't really address the question of why Word
behaves differently from the other Office applications, although maybe
it should.

I can only guess that the Word developers didn't talk to the Excel or
PowerPoint developers when that code was being designed. For whatever
reason, Word asks the current printer driver what it supports, whereas
Excel and the others just ask Windows for a list of the installed
fonts.

I thought I had been more explicit (that is a very old FAQ, one of my very
first); what it does say, however, is "Because Word aspires to be a WYSIWYG
program, it is heavily dependent on the printer driver." I guess I was
thinking that the implication is that Word takes WYSIWYGness more seriously
than the other apps, which is reasonable since you could work all your life
in Excel without ever printing anything from it; same with Outlook, I
suppose.

Thanx, Changing default printer solved the problem..
Thouggh I am a noviceon these things.. I differ here with Suzane.. The Excel
is also as good a WYSIWg as any other applications..and I a\would very much
like to learn moer about why the word in thw world depends on printer drivers
but other cousins of it don't to list Fonts..

Would you please enlighten me on this..
Thanx again.
