Word 2000 does not show embedded pictures except using Edit Picture

I have this problem with my Word 2000:

Whenever I get a Word document from someone else, then I cannot see the
pictures inside the original word document.

Here is what happens:

1. Field code showing
{INCLUDEPICTURE"cid:[email protected]" \* MERGEFORMATINET
}

2. Field code not showing>
Just an empty box

3. Right-Click and "Edit Picture":
Opens the picture up in the Edit Picure window, but when closed it is
back to either field codes showing or just an empty box.

What can be done so that I can see the pictures without needing to do a
"Edit Picture"?
