Word 2000 Envelope Printing Problem

My printer will not print the Delivery Address on #10 envelopes. It prints
the Return Address just fine. The delivery address comes out blank as though
nothing had been entered in the field in MS Word 2000's tools/envelopes
function. I have troubleshot blank pages (the closest similarity to my
problem) from HP's website with no solution. I was told at another forum that
this is not a driver issue. Even HP's tech support offered no help: they
suggested I trade in my printer for a new one! That would be because the tech
couldn't find any info on the 882C....it's too old, which she repeated about
8 times. The printer works fine otherwise. Oh, and I checked all my settings,
etc., within Word's printer and envelope options. I've had this printer for
years and it used to print envelopes with no problems. Could something have
been deselected that would affect this one field?

Does the printing show in the preview window??? If so, your font may have
been set to white .

If you choose Add to Document from the Envelopes dialog, does the delivery
address display and print correctly from within the document?

It might be a settings issue. Try opening Word using the /a switch (create a
new shortcut for Word, and add /a after the target, e.g.:

"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE\WINWORD.EXE" /a

This suppresses a number of settings. If you start Word this way, does the
address print correctly? If so, then follow the steps shown here to try to
isolate & eliminate the problem:

(Note -- the steps aren't just for those with problems opening Word.)

To answer questions: Yep, the delivery address showed up in the preview
window and the font color was set to Automatic as it had been in the past
when it worked. And the delivery info did indeed print on a piece of paper
but not on the envelope. Following Herb's advice and links, from the Start
button I ran winword.exe and added the /a. The envelope printed just dandy. I
guess I have a corrupt template. I'm a bit lost following the instructions
for renaming the normal.dot file and making sure the /a is not permanently on
the Start Word file as I can't find the files. I will continue to work on
this. Thanks very much as I feel like I'm on-the-way to resolving this
problem after many sporadic but empty hours searching the Net for a reference
to this peculiar and annoying issue. I've been using labels to bypass the bug
but often they don't look appropriate. This forum is very generous with help!

Normal.dot might be marked as a hidden/system file. To find its location, in
the menu, choose Tools - Options - File Locations. It's in the location
listed as User Templates.

Good luck!
