Word 2000 Errors When Shutting Down, Won't Save Settings Upon Exit

Greetings! Could anyone give me some guidance regarding an annoying
problem I'm having with MS Word for Windows 2000? The program was
working fine up until last July. For some reason, when I exit out of
the program, I get an error stating "Microsoft Word for Windows has
encountered a problem and needs to close."

Now, this is okay since it's happening when I am closing anyway.
However, the program does not save my last 9 files, or any other
configuration settings I may have changed.

The program still works (for the most part), but I have determined to
fix this problem.

Any guidance you can provide would be appreciated.

If you need any other information I will gladly provide it.

SOLVED!!!!

This has plagued me for months. Deleting the MS Word settings in the
registry did it!
