Word 2000 freezes in XP

When I work in Word it freezes when I copy/paste or try
to Save. After I restart I can work for a short period
of time and then it freezes again. I have to
ctrl+alt+del to release it. I have a new Dell running XP
Pro with 512mb ram. Everything else is running fine. I
have replaced the normal.dot.
