Word 2000 freezes my computer

Has anyone ever had the problem of their computer freezing
up when trying to open a Microsoft Word Document. This is
happening when I try to open an e-mail attachment using
Word. It also is occurring when trying to open up a Word
Document saved on my hard drive. Please Help!
