Word 2000 freezes up and the title bar flashes.

I have Office 2000 Pro. When I open a word doc and try to edit it it freezes
up, and the title bar starts flashing. I have to Ctl/Alt/ Del end task to
get out. I Un-installed and re- installed Office and did all updates SP1 &
SP3. still does the same thing . Does anyone know how to fix this problem?
