Word 2000 hangs on newly formatted system

I completely repartitioned & reinstalled Windows 2000 on a Dell Dimension,
and then installed Office 2000.

Every time I open Word or Excel, the system hangs and I can't ctrl-alt-del
out of it. I can't switch tasks, so my only option is to shut down &
restart.

Can anyone give me some clues as to why Word & Excel hang upon opening? I
did delete normal.dot but to no avail. Remember, this is a completely new
installation of the OS, and Word worked fine on it before installing a new
drive.

Try starting in Office Save Mode:

"User-initiated safe mode
"You can open any Office or Office family program in Office Safe Mode by
pressing CTRL while you start the program or by using the /safe option when
you start the program from the command line."
