Word 2000 Has Experienced An Error.....

Susan

I loaded word 2000 on my winXP and it manages to load, but upon typing or
pasting something, it gives the error message and the error window to send
the info to MS, and then closes.
Any help in fixing this would be appreciated.
Thanks

There are several possibilities then:

corrupt normal.dot
bad add-in
temp folder full of abandoned garbage
corrupt or out of date printer driver
out of date graphics driver

With all applications closed, go to your temp folder and check that it is
empty: if it isn't delete all those abandoned files (you may need to reboot
to achieve this). Your temp folder should be in Documents and Settings,
Username, Local Settings, Temp.

Try starting Word in Safe mode. From Start, Run, type in

WinWord /a

and press enter. Word will now start in its default install mode bypassing
all add-ins and templates. Open some of your documents and test copy/paste
again. Does it work now?

If not, check that you have the latest printer and graphics drivers. Delete
and reinstall the printer and update the graphics driver and test again.

Thanks for your help Terry. I got rid of all the garbage in the temp file.
I started word in the safe mode to no avail. I loaded a new printer
driver. The computer is brand new, so I think the graphics driver should
be okay. What is the corrupt normal.dot, and how could that be fixed?
Thanks again.

Thank you so much, Terry. I think the problem is solved. I d/l another
printer drived and installed it, after deleting the old one. So it seems
to work okay now. I really appreciate your help in solving this thing.
