Word 2000 Help Not Working

I have never posted to this newsgroup - hope it is the right one for this
question .

I am running Word 2000 on Win XP. I have been doing so for a couple of years
without any problems. However, today, I clicked on the HELP feature (F1),
and entered a question for the search and when the list of various topics
come up, none of the links work. BTW, the caption in that box is "What would
you like to do". The frame that the various topics are in flashes but that
is all. I don't know if I inadvertently turned off a HELP feature or what???
Any ideas or suggestions will be greatly appreciated. If all else fails, I
guess I can uninstall/reinstall Word :-(.

As a follow-up, I just checked the HELP on my Excel 2000 and it too is
"broken" :-(.
