word 2000 help

Well i had to reinstall word and when i went to convert
all my docs into word it stiil opens them up in notepad!
Even when i create new word docs and save them it will
open them up in notepad. I have removed and reinstalled
word till i'm pink in the fingers but, nothing works. Is
there any advice anybody can give me to fix this problem?
Ihave already tried winupdate and there are none left.

If the documents have been saved with .TXT extensions (possibly because you
have that set as the filetype in the SaveAs dialog) then Notepad owns that
extension. If they really are .DOC files, then you may have set Notepad as
the owner of the .DOC extension. That can be fixed, by right-clicking on a
..DOC file, choosing Open With... and setting Word as the default handler.
