I have Microsoft Word 2000 (SP-3) installed on three different Windows 2000
Professional systems (all service pack 4).
On all of these systems, if I start Word either by double-clicking on a word
document in explorer, or if I start word by selecting a document from the
Start/Document list, the first "Print..." or "Save As..." which I do results
in strange behavior.
In that case, instead of a "print" dialogue box or a "save as" dialogue box
appearing, Word appears to freeze up and the title bar (and tray icon) gives
the "I want attention" blink. If, at that point, Word is minimized and then
restored, the "print" or "save as" dialogue box appears, and from that point
everything proceeds normally.
The problem doesn't happen again until the next time Word is started.
The problem doesn't appear if, once Word is started, I minimize and then
restore it first.
I can handle this problem, I've had it for what seems like years and, except
for occasional annoyance, the work around is easy.
However, I'm trying to help my daughter learn to use Word, and this behavior
causes her no end of surprise and frustration and, occasionally,
inappropriate follow-on action that loses work.
I can't believe that I'm the only one seeing this problem.
I've searched the Microsoft knowledge base, but found nothing (it is hard to
come up with search terms that identify this problem).
Has anyone else seen this problem?
