Word 2000 illegal exception errors

Following error continues to appear:
"WINWORD caused illegal error exception ED6D73638. Word
will shut down"
What do I need to do to correct this? I have all the
latest updates from WIN XP Home and Office/Word 2000
installed? The computer is brand new with 512 MB of
memory.
