Word 2000 is hanging when trying to open

All of a sudden I'm finding that Word 2000 is hanging when
trying to open. Up until yesterday it was fine. When I try
to look in the task manager I'm getting message about my
system being dangerously low on resources. I tried
uninstalling and then installing again - NO luck. Does
anyone have any ideas ? Thanks
