Word 2000 locks all fixes fail

I have Word 2000 in Works Suite 2000 package. Began
totally locking up computer yesterday. Only manual shut
down will regain access to computer. Norton scan reveals
no virus found. Tried uninstall/reinstall with no luck.
Acts like virus, but I'm stumped. Any ideas?

THANKS to the good guys and gals at mvps.org! When I read
their article and renamed the normal.dot template file,
everything corrected itself. I should have looked
sooner. Thanks.
