Word 2000 Locks Up computer

As soon as I open Word, the title box will appear and then
the computer locks up completely. I have unisnstalled and
reinstalled Word, and even reinstalled Windows 98, but the
problem still exists. This is Word 2000 running in Windows
98.

Uninstalling and reinstalling rarely helps with such problems because it
does not overwrite Normal.dot or the Registry or remove add-ins from Word's
Startup folder, and these are the three primary causes of these problems.
