Word 2000 Lost Menu Bar

On one PC I recently rebuilt, Word 2000 is behaving strange.

If no document is open, the menu bar shows but without the X in the top
right hand corner to close Word - have to use Alt+F4

When a blank document is opened, the menu bar immediately disappears,
but does 'pop-down' if I move the cursor to the top end and then
disappears when I move the mouse away.

The only way to close the document is via Ctrl+F4

Going to Configure of the toolbar, show sthe tick removed from the Menu
Bar but I cannot put it back - it is locked. I have tried the Reset
button to no avail.

I have deleted normal.dot but this did not help.

Any suggestions please?

Hi Les,

It sounds like you are in Full Screen view. Press Esc and see if that
rectifies the problem.

Hi Les,

It sounds like you are in Full Screen view. Press Esc and see if that
rectifies the problem.

Unfortunately that is not it - the problems happen as soon as Word is
opened (no X in top right hand corner) and then when an empty document
is opened (the menu bar disappears)

Thanks Beth! The first option in the article fixed it like magic. Just
opened winword.exe with the /a switch and all was perfect from then on
(I hope)

Hi Les,

Great to hear.

If the /a switch corrected the minor corruption in Registry then you
shouldn't encounter any future problems.
