Word 2000 - MSO9.DLL - Normal.dot problems

Hi there,

I have been having shutdown problems with Word 2000 (SP1) which resulted in
MSO9.DLL application errors after closing word. I renamed the normal.dot
file, and started word 2000, this time no problems. The difficulty I have,
is that every time I change the normal.dot by modifying default fonts, or
any other change, I am back to the MSO9.DLL fault error.

I have tried reinstalling, removing startup items, checking the registry,
winword /a etc, no dice. Am I stuck with a vanilla normal.dot file??

Any assist appreciated..

You could be encountering some Registry corruption as well or perhaps
a corrupt *.pip file.

Exit Word and in the Registry navigate to:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\9.0\Word\Data

and rename/delete the Data key.

Then without starting Word, create a new Normal.dot. I've encountered
a few occasions when corruption in the Registry corrupts Normal.dot.

If that doesn't work then exit Word and use Windows Search to find
Word.pip and rename/delete it. Note: do not rename the Word.pip file
found in the Office folder. Depending on the version of Windows you
are using it will be located in your user profile. If in doubt, rename
the one with the most current date. Typically this is updated each
time you exit Word.
