word 2000 "needs to close" upon opening

Word 2000 will not open from my desktop, but will open in
all other desktops on my computer. It begins to open
then before the toolbars load, an error message "is
encountering a problem and needs to close" comes up and
shuts down the application. this had previously happened
on occassion while in word, but now word will not even
open at all. Have tried reinstalling, supposedly
successfully but still having same problem. seems like
others here are having same problem, but I haven't seen
any solutions. I haven't updated or upgraded anything,
using the same application I've been using for 1 1/2
years. would appreciate any suggestions!
