Hi,

I've few users which is using Ms Word 2000. It was
utilies. But the problem i encountered is, after few
months of usage, the Ms Word 2000 will become not
responding. After that, i found out actually is the User
Template file (Normal.dot) become bigger and bigger. After
i removed/deleted the files, then the Ms Word 2000 will
back to normal. I've encountered above problem few times.

Please advise, it is anyway can prevent the Mornal.dot
files to be stored in local drive or pernamently remove
the Normal.dot, so that it wouldn't appear on the local
drive.

Thank you

Sounds like you have a global template/add-in that modifies your
Normal.dot each time Word starts.

First go to Tools/Options/Save and turn on "Prompt to save Normal
template". This will help you determine which add-in is responsible
for the file bloat. If a global template/add-in is modifying your
Normal.dot then you will encounter a prompt to save Normal.dot each
time you exit Word.

Then of course exit Word to determine if this is the case. If you do
encounter the prompt then take a look under Tools/Templates and
Add-ins and see if there are any global templates or add-ins listed.
If so they are located in one of your Startup folders. The location of
the Word\Startup folder can be found under Tools/Options/File
Locations and the Office\Startup folder can be found in the Office
installation path..

Take a look in each folder and if you find more than one file move
them one at a time, start and exit Word after each file is moved out
of the folder until you determine which one is causing the problem.

Additionally if Word came installed as part of Works Suite then the
"Microsoft Works Suite Add-in for Word" could be the cause. Go to
Add/Remove Programs in your Control Panel and uninstall the Works
Suite add-in.
