Word 2000 - Not Enough Resources to Open

My friend was using Word 2000 (Millenium Windows)
exited it and then was unable to access it again. Every
time she went to open existing document, the computer
stopped working and error came up saying: Not Enough
Resources to open Word document. If she tried to open Word
for a new document, the same thing happened and the
system hung up and she had to CTR/ALT/DEL to get out and
reboot the system.
I went to her house and tried to help her. The resources
showed that her system had 74% avail in all areas. I
uninstalled it and re-installed it, but it did the same
thing.

What can I do to fix this for her???? She needs to use
Word to access old documents and to create new.
