Hi Herb,
From what I understand youre using Word2000 and are not
able to Open Word at all. A short on resources, and
winword not responding? message appear when attempting to
open. I hope youll be relieved to know that this problem
has occurred before and can be corrected with a couple
quick steps. However we would like to know some
other information. Has MSWorks with Word and a stand
alone version of Word been installed or previously
installed on your computer There may be a file that is
causing Word to not load. But currently we believe that
it is the Normal.dot file that is corrupted. These are
steps we should do:
1) close all Word applications that are open
2) click on start, run and then type in winword /a
This will start up your MS Word in safe mode, which is for
troubleshooting purposes only. It will bypass the
Normal.dot file and load up Word. If Word does load, then
we can believe this to be the problem. For more
information on winword /a, you

Startup Switch "/a" Really Do??

asp
In order to correct Normal.dot, well have to rename it and
restart Word.
This is done by:
1) Click start, search, then for files and folders, type
in normal.dot
2) Rename it to normal.old
3) Open Word
Since I believe that your normal.dot file is corrupted,
renaming this file then reopening Word will force Word to
reconstruct this file.
