Word 2000 not responding at startup

Currently when I select any icon for Word, Word attempts
to open but ceases to open. When I close the window which
is being attempted to open I get the message "Word not
responding". I have tried to repair. I have uninstalled
Word and reinstalled. I have uninstalled all of Office
2000 and reinstalled. I have attempted to rename
normal.dot. I have upgraded to Acrobat 5.05. I can enter
Word through run with the /a switch. With each of these
attempts to correct the problem I have restarted the
system and I still have the same problem.
