Word 2000 Not responding on close

MarkN

Hello,

I run Office 2000 with Vista Home Premium and have recently upgraded to
Outlook 2007. Since installing Outlook every time I close a Word document,
Word hangs then starts not responding and eventually the close the program
option appears mid screen.

Any thoughts on how to sort this out?

Using an HP printer? It is a know bug in older HP printer drivers in Vista
that HP has refused to fix.

Hi Terry,

Thanks for the reply, I use a Dell printer but there has been a HP printer
used with this computer in the past. The problem has only started since
installing Outlook 2007 but it can't hurt to get rid of the HP stuff. Apart
from deleting the printer from the Control Panel, is there anything else I
need to do to remove all traces of the HP product.

Thanks,

Nope, Just delete the HP printer and test again. If it is still the same,
come back for some further testing.

Problem still the same. The reason I know that I didn't have this problem
while the HP printer was in use is because when we moved house a year ago I
threw out the HP printer. Any other suggestions you may have would be welcome.

It sounds like a bad third party add-in. Test by running in Safe Mode. From
Start, Run (Winkey+R), type in

winword /a

and press enter. Open a document and test for editing and closing now. If it
is OK now, then you have installed something that has placed an incompatible
add-in in Word/Office. You need to disable all the add-ins and then test to
see if it eliminates the problem. If you have more than one, enable them one
at a time testing to see which is causing the problem.

See how to find add-ins
