winword /a goes okay
but any other means, e.g. clicking on .doc attachement in Outlook
causes Word to stall at the splash screen, before any toolbars
appear, requiring task manager kill
I looked in Knowledge Base, among others:
290771, 326514, 211541, 291475, 210860, 216595, 210884
Also looked at word.mvps.org and other forums, gathering as
much advice as I could about this.
Holding shift key while starting => still hangs.
I tried what was suggested when /a switch works: removing normal.dot
There were no add-ins or startup items (I checked both
startup folders).
I also deleted the "data" registry key, and renamed the
"options" registry key => no help.
I used the SUPPORT9.DOT to check registry keys also.
I don't have Norton Antivirus, or a network printer.
I ran spyware checker, and hardware diagnostic programs.
Finally, I removed Word, reinstalled it, then applied SP1a and SP3.
*** BUT IT IS STILL CONSTIPATED ***
what other laxative can I try?
Word used to work before. It is my daughter's PC; she is often
installing new programs, and various other programs regularly
update themselves (including the Microsoft critical updates).
But she can't remember when exactly Word stopped working.
I guess this means it is some stupid conflict from a recent
addition. However, no other Microsoft programs including
Excel, PowerPoint, Access and FrontPage have same problem.
