Word 2000 on Win 95 OS?

I have a copy of Office 95 Professional on a system that
is running Windows 95, but was unable to install Word
2000. It asked me if I wanted to delete the old Word 95
program and replace with the 2000, and everything seemed
to go smoothly. But when I opened a doc with the Word
2000, an error message came up, and would not let me open
any.

The Win 95 is in the FAT 16 format, and there is an
additional 40 gig hard drive installed that runs the FAT
32 format. The 40 gig hard drive is where the office 95
program is installed.
