Word 2000 post-Service Pack 3 hotfix

hi all,
I have Win2k SP4, Word 2000 SP3 .

I seem to have encountered the bug:
"WD2000: Error Message with Repeated Picture Ungrouping and Undoing the
Ungrouping"
Word 2000 crashes after playing with pictures long enough.

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;814508

this microsoft article points to a "Word 2000 post-Service Pack 3
hotfix" obtainable by contacting MS (not by download- "this patch is
intended only if you encounter the above problem" etc)

However they list the Winword.exe file that should be after the patch
as:

27-Feb-2003 21:05 9.0.0.7427 8,462,387 Winword.exe

my Winword.exe is version 9.0.0.8930 (I have done Office Update).
I would like to know if this means I already have the above patch, or
is it possible that the version numbers do not necessarily include
non-downloadable hot fixes, and so I still need this patch?
if not, why does MS refer to this patch as a post SP3 hotfix,
where my non-hotfixed Word SP3 has a greater version number?

how do I know whether I have this patch installed or not..?

thanks

There have been several security patches released since the hotfix was
created so if you've applied all of the updates you'd have a higher
version number than described in the hotfix KB article.

Depending on the hotfix, they are rolled up in the next Service Pack,
rather than Security Patch, so it's likely you still need to obtain
and install the hotfix. Contact MS Support at 1-800-936-4900 (press 3
for hotfixes) and tell them you need to obtain the hotfix described in
KB 814508 and they should fix you up at no charge.

thanks for your reply,

Another question I have regarding MS updates is:
when I did Windows update the last time, it listed
"Cumulative Security Update for Outlook Express 6 SP1 (KB823353)"
as my only remaining critical update. it downloads and notifies me that
its installed successfully, but the next time I reboot and run windows
update, it lists the same update as necessary again.
I tried to download it seperately (as an exe file) but then it lists
several versions, for ie 5.5, 6, 6 SP1 etc. My IE "About" box shows:
Update versions SP1, Q903235;
still, when I run the IE6 SP1 exe file, it says "you must need IE6 SP1
for this update". When I run the IE6 version, it says "You need windows
xp for this update". IE 5.5 version also won't work of course.

thanks

I'm really not sure. I'm familiar with the Office updates and issues
you could encounter but those for Windows, OE, and IE, well...I'm in
the same boat you are - if an updated fails I'd need to ask someone.
;-)

If you don't get the response you are looking for here then your best
bet is to start in an OE newsgroup since that's where the OE experts
hang out. This could be a common issue they are familiar with and may
have an answer readily available.
