word 2000 print set up won't change

I was using Word 97 when a problem suddenly presented itself...everytime I
opened a document the page set up starts at the bottom! Normal view it does
not do this...but if I do a print view there is that freaking curser again.
It's making me insane. I installed Word 2000 and nothing has changed. I
have tried changes in tools, options, view...print...save: I have tried print
set up...I have tried changing margins, page layout...YOU NAME IT! What am I
doing wrong here?

File | Page Setup | Layout: choose Top for vertical alignment. That will fix
a given document. To apply the change to all new documents, make this change
in a new document (without making any other changes), click Default... in
the Page Setup dialog, and answer Yes.
