Word 2000 prompts to save... no changes made

User is running OS 2k and Office 2k. Each time she opens a Word doc, does
nothing to it, she still gets the question if she wants to save changes to
the document. She said this happens everytime she is in Word whether she
makes changes or not.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Is this happening with literally *every* document - including new blank
docs - or just certain ones (even "most")? In all probability the existing
docs contain some sort of fields that are updating either on Open or Close
which are triggering the prompts. If this isn't the problem or it needs
further attention please post back in more detail.

Yes it happens to all documents incuding new blank docs. It asks the usesr
"do you want to save the changes you made to file name"
Even if she has a blank page open and only wants to close Word it says "do
you want to save the changes you made to Document1"

See if this helps.

Open the document template (most likely Normal.dot). Go to
Tools>Options>Save and uncheck "embed smart tags."

Save the template and the see if you still get the message on new
documents.

For the existing docs, you will have to open and change this setting
manually or use a macro to do it on a complete folder of files.
