Word 2000 "Properties" dialog box does not appear

In Word 2000, when I choose Properties from the File menu, the Properties
dialog box does not appear. It used to, but not anymore. I'm not sure when
this behavior started, but it might be related to a number of Windows
updates I did to this machine recently. I checked for critical updates and
installed all that Microsoft recommended. I only mention this because it's
the only thing I can think of that might have anything to do with this
recent strange behavior. As far as I can tell, everything else works the
same as it always did.

This machine does not have all of Office 2000 installed, only Word and
FrontPage. Other Office apps (Excel, Outlook, Access, PowerPoint) are Office
97. Operating System is Win98 Second Edition.

Thanks for any suggestions.

In order to investigate whether this is a Windows or Word
issue, you could try to access the dialog box from Windows
Explorer: from a Windows Explorer window, right-click a
Word document icon in order to bring up the context menu
and then select 'Properties'. Does this work? If it does,
it seems likely that the problem is with Word, and you
could try the following article:
