Word 2000 ruler

How can I get the rulers to stay visible on a Word
Document. They only pop up when I hover my cursor over it.
It was working fine yesterday. I don't know what
happened. Can't find anything in "Help".

View | Ruler. And on the General tab of Tools | Options, clear the check box
for "Provide feedback with animation."
