Word 2000 scrolls too fast

Frank

I am running MS Word 2000 under Windows 2000. I am using a LogiTech
TrackMan instead of a mouse, and it does not have a scroll wheel. When I
try to scroll down (or up) by holding down the left button and moving the
cursor down below the page (or up above the page), Word scrolls too
quickly - this means that it is impossible to stop at the correct place to
highlight a large block of text in a large document. How do I slow the
speed at which Word scrolls text?

I would be very grateful for this information.

Hi Frank,

I checked Word's help files and I've only ever found a way to SPEED up
the mouse scrolling not the other way around.

I imagine you're real problem is when you scroll over the page or off
screen and it flies down the document.

I've developed two tricks to help me get over this...

1) Use the SHIFT button with the down arrow to highlight one line at a
time.

2) Make the view of the document something like 50%. You can usually
view the text you want to highlight on screen and mouse doesn't fly
off screen.

By the way, when you said highlighting, I assume you meant
highlighting with the mouse for copying text and you did not mean
highlighting text with the highlight function? The problems the same I
think anyway. I mention it only because my company is about to launch
a free Word addin which helps with Copying and Pasting. I'll let you
know when it is available for launch if you want. Should be in the
next few weeks.

Cheers,

Mike

Mike,

Thank you. Yes, I did mean highlighting for copying.

I found the following advice in Help under "Select text and graphics"

"A large block of text. Click at the start of the selection, scroll to the
end of the selection, and then hold down SHIFT and click."

This works very well.
