Word 2000 starting error

When I try to launch Word 2000 I get the following error
message: "Winword has caused an error in Winword.exe
Winword will now close". I can't get into Word at all. I
have tried to reinstall and nothing is working. Any
advice on what else to try??

I AM HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. STARTED A FEW WEEKS AGO

AFTER DOING WINDOWS LIVE UPDATES.
WORD 2000 opens now with the same error and I cannot get
into it. O/S is Windows ME. I know of an XP machine
having same problem with WORD 2000. My WIndows 98 SE
machine initializes WORD VERY SLOWLY NOW since doing
updates. Other than a possible corrupted or conflicting
Microsoft Critical Update, I have no other ideas. And
Microsoft won't respond to the e-mail I sent.
