Word 2000 Table slow down as they get larger

G

Ginna

We use Windows 2000
Office 2000 products
We did have Word97. Upgraded to Word2000.
Had no trouble with Tables in Word97.
Now 4-5 page tables slow down tremendously. Typing text in cells crawls.
I read alot of discussion group suggestions, various places.
They seem to be outdated.
Does anyone know if Microsoft has a fix or other way to solve problem?
Last article I saw on subject in a Microsoft Knowledgebase document was
dated back in 2002. Anything more recent on the status and a fix of this
problem?

Hi Ginna,

For hints and tips on speeding up table handling, see
http://www.word.mvps.org/FAQs/TblsFldsFms/FastTables.htm.

The table engine in Word 2000 is much more complex than the one in
Word 97, including such things as nested tables. Unfortunately, as a
first attempt at that complexity, it wasn't optimized very well. The
later versions have improvements. (I hope you know that Office 2000 is
now outdated, and that mainstream support for it ended more than a
year ago; see http://support.microsoft.com/lifecycle/?p1=2484.)
