Word 2000 template issue

F

fred

Every time I try to close a Word file I get the message:

"Word cannot save changes in the global template because
it was opened with read-only access. Do you want to save
the changes in a template with a different name?"

This occurs even if I just open a new file and close it
without entering anything.

If I click on "No" the file closes OK.

Do you use Word as your email editor?

I'm pretty sure that I have emailed from Word at some time
although I can't remember a specific instance. I have
also created and edited a rudimentary web page in Word.

Another data point: I show two items loaded under "global
templates and addins". They are palmapp.dot and
wfword2k.dot.

I don't know whether it's relevant or not, but both Palmapp.dot and
Wfword2k.dot are notorious for causing conflicts in Word (the latter
especially with the Norton Office Plug-in).

Well, I took palmapp.dot and wfword2k.dot out of the
startup file and the problem went away. When I put
wfword2k.dot back in the problem returned.

Is there some place I can go to find out what these files
do and what functions I would miss if I just left them out?

I have no idea where they came from or why they are there.

I found it. I got smart and searched for wfword2k.dot and
found a fix. There is also one on the microsft knowledge
base, but it won't work unless you download a new version
of wfword2k from symmantec. Links below.

Thanks for your help.
