Word 2000 teplates will not open fro desktop

Hi, all my templates for Word which I used to double click to open from the
desktop do not work. Word opens but template is not loaded. However if I
start Word directly or File, Open from this failed state, and search for the
template by hand, it opens.

How can I fix this - its causing no end of hassle for me.
