Word 2000 - toolbars hidden. Cannot retrieve

Using MS Office 2000 Standard version. Word and Excel working OK for past 5
years. Now, when retrieving any Word file, all top menubars/toolbars are
hidden - including main menubar containing "file","edit","tools" etc.
dropdown menus.
Have tried right clicking all areas on page but cannot access "customize" on
"tools" menu or retrieve / unhide any toolbar. Have uninstalled MS Office and
reinstalled but still get same screen missing toolbars.
Also use Pocket Word on HP organizer which syncronizes with MS Outlook 2002
on my laptop. Possible conflict ?? Any advice most welcome.

Try "missing word menu bar" in Google. It turned up a variety of answers for
me.
