I am working as an intern for the City of Salem M.I.S.
deptartment in Virginia and recently encountered a
problem with an employees machine. When trying to open
Word 2000, the hour glass comes up on the screen like it
is going to open and it never does. He is using Windows
98 and all of his other office products are working
correctly(Excel, Access, FrontPage, Publisher, etc.).
Ctrl+Alt+Del does not do anything and when pushed twice I
get the blue screen saying that the system is busy. From
there I cannot restart the machine; all I can do is turn
it off manually and then back on. I removed and
reinstalled Microsoft Office 2000, tried to repair word,
scanned for viruses(none found), did a Windows update,
got rid of all malware using Spybot, and checked to see
if there were any other noticeable problems with his
machine and there were not. All devices were working
properly. Is there any reasonably quick solution for
this? My next step is going to be to reload Windows onto
his machine but I do not want to do that as it takes time
to copy everything over and do that. Help in Salem,
Virginia!
