Word 2000 (Win XP Pro) freezes/locks up by clicking on graphics

Word 2000 (Win XP Pro) locks up when I click on some
graphics and try to move them or edit them. These
graphics are not linked to other files and the graphics
work fine using other computers. Some graphics are OK. I
have made all the updates to Windows and Word, have Zone
Alarm and Norton antivirus live update and have scanned
for ad-aware, spybot etc.
Any ideas on how to fix?

Thanks, Mary, for the suggestion. I went to the Microsoft
web site to make sure I had all the latest updates for
Word, but I still have the same problem. I'm not sure
that's what you meant for me to do.

One other thing, the files with these graphics are usually
sent to me by someone else. If I can first convert the
graphic to "square" or "tight" orientation (using another
computer) the problem seldom happens.

P.S. My computer is brand new with 1 gig RAM.

No, Mary was suggesting that you go to the Web site of the manufacturer of
your video card and look for a new driver. The site should provide
instructions for downloading and installing it.

Thanks, Suzanne.
I did a ATI System Compatibility for my All-in-Wonder 9600
video board which said WDM capture devices not found in
registry. I uninstalled the old driver and downloaded and
installed the newest version.

Unfortunately a rerun of ATI System Compatibility (Start,
Programs, ATI Media Center, Configuration, PC Check, Run
Tests) gave me the same error: WDM capture devices not
found in registry.

I'm not sure if the WDM capture devices problem can cause
the M/S Word graphics lock ups.

Many thanks, Mary, for your continuing effort to help.

I read http://www2.ati.com/drivers/wdm_release_6224.html
and noted a "tv-capture-wdm-6-14-10-6224.exe" file
Yesterday, I found it on my system. Today it's no longer
there.
However, the appropriate drivers as mentioned on
http://www2.ati.com/drivers/wdm_release_6224.html are shown
in Device Manager as working properly.
I'm writing ATI to see what's the problem. I also don't
get any sound, so the problem may be with the ATI
All-in-Wonder 9600 card.
