Word 2000 /Winfax Pro - problems merging to fax

Anyone have any solutions to get Symantec Winfax Pro to work with Word
2000 running on XP Pro?

Initially I was getting a runtime error -2147417851
(80010105) Automation error - the server threw an exception.

After hunting for support at Symantec (glad I wasn't holding my breath)
I found an article on their site that had you remove and recreate the
cover.db file, enable the WinFax Automation Server, associate the
wfxctl32.tlb file to winfax, etc etc

Now when I try to do the merge it seems to hang after submitting the
first page to the "printer".

My test file has 4 records in it yet when I try to do the winfax merge
it only seems to send one page to the printer - I get the little printer
box showing up and it only shows one page in the job it is doing. It
shows it going to the winfax "printer" then the print job listing
vanishes as though the printing is complete. Yet nothing shows up in
the fax out box.

When I open the fax control center it doesn't want me to shut down
because it shows other users logged in. When I go to my Windows Task
Manager I could see WFXCTL32.EXE running and using 60% of my CPU. I
eventually chose end process and terminated the process - when I did my
merge document in word reported another runtime error:
Runtime -2147023170(800706be)
Automation error, the remote procedure call failed.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks

Often, the people in an OUTLOOK newsgroup have a fairly good idea how to
get this to work (or can at least explain why it doesn't).
