Word 2000 with Embedded Visio document

B

Bob Razvi

I have been working with a Word Document in which I have
embedded several Visio charts. Everything works fine,
until every now and then I get an error message:

The document name or path is not valid. Try these
suggestions:
* Check the file permissions for the document or drive.
* Use the File Open dialog box to locate the document.
(path\file name)

This usually happens when
1) Word attempts to auto save the document
or
2) When I try to save the document.

After the error there is no way for me to actually save
the document. I always have to go back to a previous
version (where I did not encounter the error) start over.
Once I close out of the document eith the error, if I try
to open it again, it gives me the same error.

Is there any way to work around this? Is there any way I
can salvage my document with changes? I've already seen
the web page that the on-line support directs me to (see
below), but this has not helped.

Thank you,

Hi Bob,

We need a little more information. What version of Word are you using
and which patches do you have installed? (Take a look under
Help/About).

Is the embedded Visio object active when you encounter this message?

Hi Beth,

Thank you for getting back to me.
MS Word version: Word 2000 (9.0.7616 SP-3)
Visio version:10.0.525
This is running on Windows 2000 O/S.

I have seen the problem occurr at times when the the Visio
object is active and inactive.

Hi Bob,

Are you using Norton AV? There have been other problems with using
embedded objects and Norton and what you are encountering could be
another issue. If using Norton go to Norton Options and in the
Miscellaneous section turn off "Enable Office Plug-in".

Also note if Norton was ever installed then the Office Plug-in could
still be registered. If that is the case then search for :
officeav.dll

If you find it then go to Start/Run and run the following command:

regsvr32 /u "<path>\officeav.dll"

Hi Beth,

I forget where I had posted this note and I just found it
again. I am currently running Symantec AntiVirus
Corporate Edition (verion 8.0.1.425). I did not ever have
Norton on this machine. I did a search on the entire
computer for the dll you specified and it was NOT found.

Not sure what's causing my problem..:(
Please help if you can.
-Bob
