Word 2000 won't function when invoked

just yesterday, i tried to start microsoft word 2000; as soon as the
hourglass disappeared a window popped up stating that Microsoft Word
experienced an error and needed to shut down. so i sent an error report and
closed the program. what's strange is that when i went back to the users
menu of win xp and signed on as the other users. they use the exact same
program and encountered no problems with Word- that means my username is the
only one having problems. i tried uninstalling and reinstalling the program;
repairing the program. none of these techniques worked. on some occassions,
i was redirected to the microsoft page and told to download some new updates.
even after doing this, i am still experiencing problems. please assist.
