Word 2000 won't start after deleting temp files

To get rid of possible spyware I was instructed to delete files in the
C\Windows\temp directory. Didn't delete all but most of them. Now Word
2000 and Excel 2000 will not start in Normal Mode and error says they aren't
installed. But they do start O.K. in Safe Mode. Running Windows 98SE. Any
quick fix?
