When I open a Word Document using the File - Open commands
the document opens in a different format from what it was
saved.(no bold/ all left format and at the bottom of
document are instuctions) I can fax you the different
documents.
If I open using the "My Computer" - "C:" - "file name" it
opens in the correct format.

In the File > Open dialog, change the 'Files of type' dropdown to Word
documents, instead of 'Recover text from any file'.
