word 2000

I

Ian Price

When trying to open a word file whilst using word, the
computer freezes and has to be restarted. When opening
through "my documents", there seems to be no problem.
Excel etc are all fine. Can anybody help?

Many Thanks

Sounds like a corrupt Normal.dot. Search for all Normal.dot files (I
suspect there is more than one), rename those you find to
OldNormal.dot. Word will create a new one upon starting.

If this resolves the problem, any customizations can be copied to the
new Normal.dot via the Organizer (Tools/Templates and Add-Ins) Once
this is complete OldNormal.dot can be discarded. If the problem still
exists then you can delete the new Normal.dot and rename your
OldNormal.dot to Normal.dot.

If this doesn't resolve the problem then there are additional
troubleshooting steps found in this article:
