Word 2001 app corrupts almost daily

Problem: 3-4 days a week Microsoft Word quits working. The program appears
to launch but it freezes right about the time it's going to present a blank
document. If you Force Quit and try to launch it again then it will freeze
at that same point each time. In other words, once the problem occurs the
first time then it occurs every time.

The problem is solved by tossing the whole Office X folder and dragging a
new one off the CD. Of course it corrupts within hours or days again and has
to be replaced...again.

Word had been running solid on this Mac for the past 18 months. This problem
has been ongoing the past 3-4 weeks.

Any ideas what might be the source of the problem and a likely solution?

Dual processor G4 with 1.0GB RAM purchased in 2003. Recently upgraded to
1.5GB.
Mac OS X 10.3.8 and recently 10.3.9
Office X (2001) sometimes left installed as copied off the CD. Other times
it's updated to 10.1.6.

Thanks in advance for any ideas.

Your post is a bit confusing. Office v.X is a Mac OSX native application
suite. Office 2001 is a Mac OS9 suite - which will run in Classic mode
in Mac OSX.

In any case, trashing the application folder and reinstalling rarely, if
ever, fixes problems with Office applications.

Try one of the following troubleshooting pages (use Firefox, Camino,
Opera, Omniweb, or, if you use Safari, hit refresh several times):

If you have Office v.X:

If you have Office 2001:

Yeeesss. This sounds like a good way to cause problems. See the links JE
McGimpsey recommended.
