Word 2001 for Mac and Color Stylewriter 1500 problem

Dear Expert,

There seems to be an incompatibility between MS Word 2001 for Mac (for which
I have run the latest updater) and the Color Stylewriter 1500 printer driver
vZ2-2.2.1 which is part of the Mac OS 9.1 software.

Unlike other components of Office 2001 and other applications such as MS
Works 4.0, Claris Works etc which have A4 as an option in the pop-up menu
for page size, with Word 2001 this is not available and so I have had to
use the Custom button. However, having entered the A4 dimensions in the
Custom button box, these are lost if I change the scaling and everything is
returned to the American default settings.

Is there any solution to this ?

Hi Peter:

Make sure you set Word to format the job for the correct named printer and
not "Any Printer". Then set up the printer definition and save it, then
save the document.

Hope this helps

Dear John and Dayo,

Thanks for your responses to my query. Since writing my message shown
below, I can confirm that the misbehaviour of the printer driver is
specifically related to Word 2001 SE and has not occurred with any other
application I have tried. I also confirm that the driver is the last and
final version because Apple no longer support the printer.

If it is of any interest to users of this driver, I have found by
experimenting a workaround to overcome the problem with scaling which only
occurs with vertical orientation. The solution is as follows:

1. Set custom page size for A4 (input 20.95 cm width and 29.63 cm height) -
ensure this remains active throughout the following steps.
2. Choose the custom page size already set, in the Page Size menu.
3. If a change of scaling is needed then choose what is required.
4. Choose horizontal orientation.
5. Click on OK.
6. Reopen Page Setup and revert orientation to vertical.
7. Click OK
